    My giant project!

I've been waiting for Red Bull to release details of our current project for 2 weeks. FInally yesterday they sent out a press release. I put up pics of a truck a few weeks ago talking about a stunt i was involved in. I couldent say much about it then but now it's time. My boss (Rhys Millen) will being doing a backflip in a modified prolite stadium truck New Years Eve in Las Vegas. The stunt will be televised Via ESPN and will be live. THe program has been organized by Red Bull and will also feature a new distance jump record on a motorcyle. Rhys will be launching from a 16 foot tall ramp i've been building for the last 3 weeks. It is a fully custom built ramp designed to help the truck rotate. ESPN camera crews were at my shop last week interviewing me and 2 others involved in the project along with shooting some footage of the ramp and a scaled demonstration of the flip.

Remeber that the ramp is not done in these photos. $ feet will be added to the top of the ramp.

Here is how far i am on the ramp.

double hinge down low to keep the ramp smooth with angle change

    jacks to level the ramp

The ramp is almost done! We are hoping to try and pull a backflip on Friday into boxes to test everything. I will post pictures shortly.

Here are some updated pics. This kind of pre-runner offroad suspension is pretty rare any where on the eastern half of the U.S. Long travel double A-arm front, and a double triangulated rear. The rear is converted from a trailing arm set-up for stability reasons.

This is what i call a modular ramp. Different sections of the ramp will bolt up to change ramp angle, kicker angle, and overall height.

    IN place

How about a more agressive ramp angle? Out with the old, in with the new.

5 more feet going to the top of the ramp

The crazy man doing the jump, Rhys Millen and a aero tube exhaust he is building. Photo is kind of f.ucked up b

Rhys Millen Involved in Training Accident

SANTA MONICA, California (December 24, 2007) – Rhys Millen was involved in an accident while preparing to be the first person to backflip an off-road racing truck at the Red Bull Experiment in Las Vegas on Monday, December 31.

We have been informed by Rhys Millen Racing's management team that Rhys has incurred non-life-threatening injuries and is currently being medically treated at a local hospital.

Red Bull has a strong history working with athletes who push the limits and always employs safety as its first and primary concern. However, this is an unfortunate accident, and we wish Rhys a quick and healthy recovery.

Additional information will be disclosed when it becomes available.

    RHYS MlLLEN QUOTE:
“After successfully landing the 360-degree backflip three times into the cardboard boxes in training, I am disappointed that our last jump ended in an accident. As I lay here in the hospital with three broken vertebrae in my neck and two compressed and broken vertebrae in my back, I am also disappointed that we cannot perform the 360-degree backflip at the Red Bull Experiment on New Year's Eve, but I'm happy that I will be able to walk again. I look forward to watching Robbie Maddison do his 300-plus-foot
    motorcycle jump in Las Vegas.”
