I got a $200 7.1MP Kodak digital camera that takes GREAT video to my suprise. Took a video of my buddy's wedding on the beach and it was better than the one done with the actual video camera, plus you can also do still shots as well. Best of both worlds and sounds like an affordable solution for you.

Sounds good Ed but can you zoom in and out with it while taking video? Most still/vid cams cannot.

That's the only drawback, but has not bothered me for all I use it for. You have to be zoomed where you want it before you start capturing video.

It's not *that* hard to do but it is one extra step to do that you would not need to do if you spent a little more money.

Jared, I've had both the mini DVD cams and Mini DV ones, and I'll never own a DVD cam again. I have a mini DV camcorder that uses mini DV tapes that can be recorded over after I transfer the vid's to my PC. I did have to go out and buy an external 300G hard drive and a DVD burner in order to make movies, but now I can make my own movies with chapters, etc. If you get a mini DV camera, make sure it has a i-wire output (firewire) for transfering to a PC.
