High speed runs in a fox?

Just wanted to get the opinions from anyone here who has gone fast in both a LX and a GT. I'm just curious if the GT/Cobra body parts helped much at high speeds. I've been to somewhere around 160 in my 85 which basically has the body of an LX and it felt like it was ready for lift off. I wouldn't mind putting something like a stalker kit on there if it would really help at high speeds. I'm not too concerned about it right now, but if I ever do anything else with that car it's going to be pretty wild and will probably get to those speeds fairly quickly.

It was definitely scary, hence the reason for this post . That was probably 7 or 8 years ago though. It had 2.73's then so that was still in 4th gear, haha.

Ive had my GT and LX both over 145 not much differnce up there. Both feel abit uneasy, shady and like a small gust of wind will blow you away. lol

I had my 85 Capri RS doin' all it would do and was happy that I could keep it between the ditches. I was racing a early 90's Vette with a turbo and we were side by side till I hit 5th and then he just pulled away.

How do you know that you were doing 160 in an 85? Did you change the speedo?

From the tach. I had 2.73's and was taching around 6000 rpm in 4th. If you do the math it comes out to around 160 give or take a few. I drove that car for over a year with a broken speedo cable so I got pretty good at "doing the math"

yea... using a calculator on the net with that tire size and the factory T5 gear ratios for a '85 mustang, it computes the speed at 6k rpms to be 156.8

edit: I did the calculation manually and got 162.53497 mph... either way, it was nearly 160mph

    225/25.4=8.8582677" (section width) X aspect ratio .50 = 4.4291339 X 2 (two sidewalls) + 16" rim = 24.858268

    2.73 x 336 x 160 mph = 146764.8 / 24.858268 = rpm 5,904.0638

Disclaimer: Due to manufacturing tolerences ( tire heights) this figure can only be a guess in a sense. Knowing the actual height of the tire per manufacturer will yield more accurate results.

I agree, I'm not trying to prove that I went 160. I know I did, if someone doesn't believe me I couldn't care less. My original question was weather the GT body style is better than the LX at high speeds. I kind of thought that it might be, but looks like most people are saying it's just as scary in a GT. I think if the car was lowered a little it might not be quite as bad.

And I'm not trying to prove you didn't attain 160. I was simply throwing a formula out there and could care less about who gives a **** about it and who doesn't. You got a stock tach in there?
