The max power in the 87-93 5.0 cars was 225 hp at 4200? rpm.
In the 2 stock 5.0s I had ( '87 & '88 ), power began to drop off noticeably around 5200-5300. I'd say the powerband for the cam is approx 1500-5000. I'm sure some of the folks here will have some more accurate info though.

With the E7TE irons (unported) and the stock EFI manifolding on a *302* the peak H.P. and Torque will usually check in @ 4,750 or so and 3,200 or so for the torque. More cubic inches, intake runner length, header design, cylinder head design will alter those figures some.

Hey Joe, funny how we have to answer Dave's questions over the internet. You'd think he'd just call us or stop by.

I am thinking about going back to standard base circle roller. And a cheap in will be to put the stock cam back in the motor (357w, victor jr. heads, victor intake, 10.5:1).

Ideas? Or should I pick up a cheap alphabet cam to keep the price down?

Perhaps the venerable F cam. I haven't heard a lot about the X or Z cam as far as performance though. That Z deal has 228 degrees @.050 on both intake and exhaust. With .552" lift with 1.6's. Not familiar with the lobe profile/ramp rate though.

gotcha, I really need to get away from this reduced base circle cam. I think its been the crutch of this motor ever since I put it together.

It quite possibly could lower the peaks marginally with the increased cubes.
