    Lightbulb Need Your Handgun Expertise

I'm thinking about trading in my Taurus .357 (model 99 / ss 6-inch barrel / hand cannon) and Ruger 9mm (p89dc / full-size) for a sub-compact 9mm. I was thinking .45 but I got a whole can of 9mm ammo to shoot and that stuff is cheaper than .45 anyway.

In your opinion, what would be a nice RELIABLE small 9mm? I got small mits, too so a small grip is not a problem for me. I should get a few hundred apiece for those 2 guns ??? and I would be willing to put another $200 in, so I'm in the $600 range.

I would usually keep this g in my car and carry it occasionally.

    thanks

edit: I'm leaning towards this right now:

I can't see the photo you posted but....Glock's are always a good bet as are sigs. Handguns are like cars, everyone has their opinions on what they like and don't like etc... etc...

Springfield XD's are accurate, reliable (as are Glock's & Sigs) and less expensive.

I'm looking at the new Beretta PX4 myself as it's extremely accurate

    subcompact

And you can never go wrong with a 1911 compact!

The new SIG M&P is awesome but may be a little larger than what you're looking for.

Hold a few at a gun store and go with whatever "feels" best. Oh and I'm sure Ed will be more than happy to take you shooting as long as you buy the ammo...gives him an excuse to shoot holes in things!!

Here's a couple of my 9mm's. Glock19 on top, Glock 26 on the bottom, IMHO the G19 is probably one of the best 9mm's you can get, compact, accurate, feels good in hand and carries 15+1, also easy to conceal. The G26 is also a great gun especially for conceal carry if that is your main purpose. Both have reliability that is second to none. My vote goes to the G19

that Beretta looks sweet, but I don't like that old-fashioned crickety safety. One day next week, I'll go get my hands around a few. Seems like folks on gun forums are about 50/50 between the Glock 26 / SA XD9 ?

you know what? I live in this God-forsaken little shit city of Connellsville. As much as people make fun of us Fayette County redneck idiots, C'ville has no stores whatsoever. You can't buy a quad, lawn mower, guns/ammo anywhere in this GD place. AND, before somebody says we got a Wally World now... it's actally in Dunbar Township. The only thing we got is pizza, beer and church.

I got my Ruger at Johnson's Gun Depot in Norvelt. Where do you guys do most of your gun shopping/buying ?

Not a fan of 1911's for carry, great gun for shooting but never had one that did'nt have a malfunction of some kind. Another option is an HK P7M8 but they are very pricey, here's a pic of one of the P7's I have.

holy cows you got that right. what justifies double the price of the other subcompacts? is it just a name or some other wonderful physical or reliable component?

The P7M8 is a design all it's own, I do beleive it is the only other design to come out since John Brownings famous 1911 design which just about every other automatic pistol is designed after. The P7M8 is a gas operated delayed blowback design with a fixed barrel, this gun will still operate with a broken extracter, recoil is next to nothing and accurracy is incredible for a combat weapon. It has a squeeze cocker grip as a safety, so in order to fire you just squeeze the grip and your ready to rock, let it go and you are in safe mode. It is truely a unique pistol. This is a fully ambidextrious gun also, to drop the slide you just squeeze the handle and down it goes, no levers. As for reliability, I'd say this is as reliable as my Glocks if not more reliable, this gun shoots the lightest loads to the heviest +P+ 9mm's. My Glocks will not shoot real light 9mm reloads unless I change the recoil spring, not enough powder to cycle the slide, the P7M8 does. Guess that's part of the reason for the hefty price tag.

XD has had nothing but awesome reviews...i was looking at their sub-compact the other day...i think a .40 is around $500...so they're priced right too.

You could try Johnson's Sporting Goods off the Dunningsville exit as they're personal friends of mine...or Ace in Washington.

If you're considering the Springfield's, just buy the Glock. After all, why buy the copy when you can get the original! Glock's are one of the best and most reliable semi's out there and they're also one of the guns that are still reasonably priced.

If you're looking for conceal/carry pistols, I have a bunch and you're welcome to come shoot any of them as long as you're feeding them.

I know it's stupid, but I think the XD looks better than the G26. Ima put my hands on both of them Wednesday and make a decision.

Thanks for all the info, peeps.

I'm surprised nobody used this yet in this thread:
