Brake question??

I started getting a clunky noise on the way home yesterday from the front suspension area. This morning I pulled the driver front wheel off and found the problem. The locating pin was missing from my caliper when I pulled the wheel (see attached photo, arrow indicates where the pin should be). The question is if I got a similar sized bolt or cotter pin from the hardware store and jerry rigged it would that be safe until I can get the replacement part from the dealer?

A good autoparts store may carry it. If not, just be sure to use at least a Gr. 8 piece of hardware for your cultural engineering project!
