    3.73s?

Not to sound like a total idiot or anything, but i was told when i bought my car that it had 3.73 rear end gears, well i dont feel like tearing the rear end apart just to find out so i was wondering if anybody else that has 3.73s could chime in if this sounds like theirs.. in first gear if i shift at around 3k rpm i can get to like 12-15mph before i have to shift?

    Lol i was just curious..

    count the rotations with tape....

put a piece of tape on the top of the tire then put a piece exactly above it on the fender lip, then get under the car and mark the driveshaft. have someone turn the wheel from outside the car one full rotation while your counting the amount of turns it passes under the car on the driveshaft markings

all you have to do is put a mark on the driveshaft and rotate the rear tire one full rotation and see how many times your driveshaft turns. if it goes 3 3/4 times then it has 373 gears

Ha! Try mine with the 3.87 1st gear T5 (4 cylinder box), 3.73 rear, and a 26" tire. First is a joke :D BTW, I have been playing with some ratios lately, and with my 3.97 1st, 3:73 rear, and a 27" tire I can go 31.47 mph at 5800 rpm, With the 3.35 1st gear box I can go 37.3 ;)

You can play here to see if you can match it up......

You can get your gear ratios here......

    If its an 87 T5, its likely a 3.35 1st gear trans.

If you dont want to do all that, jack it up and count revolutions :D
