    Breaking down a salary

im im trying to break down a salary to a per hour rate.

in doing so. I am taking my salary then divide by 12 months, then divide by 160 hours (40 per week) to get what a salary converts to in an hourly rate.

is this correct or is there something I am missing because my numbers are not matching.

you're only using 48 weeks. there are 52 weeks in a year. take your total salary and divide by 2,080 hours. :D

I usually think about it like salary divided by 26(checks in a year if every two weeks) then take that # divided by 80(hours worked in two weeks) to get $$/hr

i tried that and it comes out lower. still not matching what it should be.

i even did it like this:

Salary divided by 52 weeks, divided by 40 hours = hourly.

    and that still doesnt match.

this is where your threads go to BS like stated somewhere else. as Ray will tell you, MATH don't lie. it's basically the only thing in the whole GD universe that doesn't lie. if you work for the government, it's probably 37.5 hours per week that's considered full time. try that. if that doesn't work, there's definitely HUMAN ERROR.

    i work a gov't job.

    i work 40 hrs a week.

troll - i am considering human error which is why i am trying to make sure i am doing this right. I didnt want to go in there with a math error. trust me i love math as its the only 100% right or wrong variable in the universe.

edit - i tried the 37.5 hours and its a lot closer.

edit - i tried the 37.5 hours and its a lot closer. doesnt make sense my pay is based on 37.5 hours but my work hours are 8+ a day. I get paid tomorrow...maybe i can go to payroll and ask about it

im getting paid per hour anyways....but they list the pay grades in yearly.

If you are tuely being paid salary, you cant divide out you check to an hourly rate so to speak. I get $XXXX salary per month paid twice a month (15th and 30th). If you divide it out by the hour, it wil lconfuse you unless you do it on a base year / month / whatever its based on to start.

The tax man must have gotten all your money then. That would explain why you don't have a pulley upgrade yet.
