    Computer guys come on in

I am barely ever home cause of work and school and so forth so i usually have to stay up early in the morning writing papers so i started looking into laptops so i can work on my stuff in the car on the way to and from school and so on and so forth, so what kind of laptop should i get? All i need it to do is be able to have microsoft word, load stuff from cds on to it, get on internet, and have alot of memoory so i can store all my stuff. I know its you get what you pay for so whats teh best bang for my buck?

I have an HP and it works well for what I do.

I can surf wireless, tune my car, burn CD's, run MS programs that I use, and in general do everything I need to. I got it thru Circuit City and paid just under $500 out the door. My battery doesn't last many hours like a better one but it's okay for me.

x2. My brother has a toshiba and he likes it but mine is a HP and I love it. lol. I have the wireless and everything on it so if I'm waiting in the car or on my break at work I can pull it out. its nice. As far as the battery goes it depends what I'm doing how long it lasts. If I charge it at night before I take it with me throughout the day getting on and off for maybe 3 hours total I've never had it die.

My compaq has treated me very well for the last 5 years now... Once every other year or so, i format the hard drive and start over, just to keep it fresh and uncluttered... Never had a single problem with it, and in the last 5 years, i've shut it down MAYBE a handful of times... it runs 24/7/365 - i'm very surprised it hasn't overheated by now

macs are excellent computers, but can be a little expensive. if you are just going to be using it to type up some things and not do anything crazy then really any newer, cheap computer will be fine as long as you dont put a whole lot of programs and music on it to slow it down.

try to get at least 1GB of ram and a processor with a decent speed. my advice would be to stay away from windows vista if you can. try to get one with XP on it if you can find one

I got a Gateway laptop that was on sale for around 500 earlier this year from Best Buy. There was about 250 in rebates and such when I got it. It has been great for me. Came with word, office, and some other programs that I can't remember right now. Fast and great graphics with a really nice bright screen.

Ive had great luck with vaio's and dell.

I would just shop on price and screen quality. Check out a few local places so you can see the screens firsthand, then go online and try for the best price.

If you want to really go for good deals, try pricewatch.com

my compaq is lasting a long time. going on 6 years now. only had to replace the processor due to it shattering from negligance.

i had considered formatting it and selling it. so if interested lmk. its a compaq presario. ive run autocad and many other engineering programs on it with no problems at all.

I like my new Gateway, it has worked flawlessly. I bought a new Toshiba last January and it was nothing but problems after 6 months. I had it fixed once (Bad hard drive). I really hate talking to the customer service people from india or where ever they are from, I swear they do that on purpose so you just give up and fix it yourself. A month or so later it started screwing up again so I launched it across the room and stomped the piss out of it. It never felt so good to throw 800 bucks away.
