how does the wireless internet work? do i have to get a card or soemthing?
every new laptop i've seen for years comes with an integrated wireless card, so its already in the computer... theres no need for a seperate card.... The only requirement is that you have a wireless router to be able to transmit the data from the hardwire connection (comcast cable, verizon FiOS, DSL, etc) to your laptop... Router's arent too expensive, but plan to spend probably 50-70 bucks for one that will do the job... well over 100 if you want a really good one...
And, you can have wirless anywhere theres a cell signal through Verizon, but its something like $60 a month and you will need to have a special card for that....

- bolt-ons, tune, lots of carbon fiber (642/671 rwhp/tq)
Laptops usually have the built-in wireless as mentioned above... A common name you may have heard is Intel Centrino, which is the built in wireless.
I got a Toshiba Satellite for $400 after rebates from Circuit City, and they had a special for $60 to get a laptop bag, router and 1gb thumbdrive.
It has Vista and 1GB of RAM which makes startup slow, but add another 1GB RAM and install WinXP pro and it should be up to par.
I definitely haven't had any complaints thus far though.
You'll be amazed how many wireless signals you can piggyback on when you travel around with your laptop.
so i need to hook up with a wireless carrier to get internet? i am heading out to best buy and circuit city this weekend...
Also will these be able to let me tune my car through my data logging on my LC-1 wideband?
yes and no? you want internet anywhere? yes you need to go to sprint or verizon. i think sprint's is the better deal. just make sure the laptop has a PCMCIA slot so it will hold the card that they sell you.
as for datalogging. should. depends what interface the wideband uses. my AEM one uses serial, so you can either make sure the laptop has a serial port, or get a serial to usb adapter.
no i am just not too good with computers, thats why i am in airframe and powerplant, not avionics. hahahaha
ok i got some ideas and going to see what i find this weekend, thanks for all the help guys.
