i was given a k/n cone air filter for a 5.0 engine.
this is the kind that connects to the MAF meter and is exposed under the hood.
are they good to use? i thought i heard in the past they were not due to sucking in the hot engine comp air??

i had one in my red car and it worked fine, but it does suck in alil warm air
You will suck in hot under hood air and they can have fan wash from the engine cooling fan disturbing the airflow which can wreak havoc on the mass air meter reading. In other words, yes it can work if you have a heat shield or air deflector covering it from the fan airflow.

Hey nothing wrong with it if it was free. Probably get the same gains from a panel filter in stock airbox with silencer removed?
