04 Mach 1 manual trans vs. S197 manual trans.

These two examples of the Mustang seem to be very similar in performance when discussing quarter mile elapsed times. The three-valve 4.6L and the four-valve 4.6L have comparable peak RWHP numbers and curb weights. In a test back in 2004 a *showroom* stock 2004 Mach 1 was tested. Data is shown below.

    Weight with driver: 3,660 lbs.
    RWHP: 283
    RWTQ: 311

    ET: 13.156@105.35 (2.03 60')
    Best MPH: 105.98

Note: The Mach 1 4.6L engine is NOT the 1996-1998 Cobra engine. And it is not a detuned version of the 1999-2001 Cobra engine. It has a different block(though made of aluminum), different heads and different cams.

The factory h.p. and torque ratings from Ford are 310@6,000 and 335@4,200. Coupled with 3.55's from the gate, IMO, high 12's are within reach with a better 60'.

This isn't the old Mark VIII engine is it? Sounds very similar. Mine was rated at 280hp. With a better exhaust/intake 310hp doesn't sound impossible.

I've not seen traps from the stock 05+ that are similar to the Mach engine. 104-106 is pretty common stock Mach and 100ish seems common to the 05+ stock. This comparison was beat to death when the s197's came out and IMHO the 03-04 Mach was the faster car stock for stock.

Alum. block, forged crank (M5 only) 03-04 Cobra heads, Navigator cams, and 10.1 to 1 compression sums up the Mach 4V.

    Here's a S197 trapping 103+

    The D/A is superb though.
