I was watching Top Gear last night. They were testing the top speed of the Bugatti Veyron on VW's top security test track. There might have been a previous post of this, but watching that episode made me think....If you are traveling at 250 miles per hour, is it really nessesary to wear a helmet? In the episode after, they showed the wreck of the jet-enigined car wrecking and the one guy getting really hurt...but that had a cage. The Bugatti just has airbags. No cage. So would a helmet really help you if you crash traveling at over 350 feet per second (that's over one football field every second)? Good for him to wear one, but I wonder if it is more of a security blanket than anything. I'm sure you have a better chance at survival if you wear a helmet going that fast, but I can't imagine it would be too much more. I'm kinda rambling here, but it just struck me funny...
