the 25-30mpg you speak of, is that highway?
My good friend had a SRT-4 for 3 years, and got like 17-18 all the time... he lived in shadyside, so it was all city driving, but it was still much worse than i expected...

Yea, I didn't think they had the best MPG either. I'm sure philly could chime in and give us his .02.

Someone in Mt. Pleasant has a 04 GTO as there year round dd. I see it all the time sitting in the street before you come to the doughboy. Its always coverd in salt so i guess it does ok in the snow. as for gas mileage i have no clue. But my buddy's trailblazer ss. it weighs around 5000 lbs. AWD and its an Ls2 based motor and it averages around 16 mpg.

Not sure of the city mileage, but I know he gets good highway mileage...he's always busting my balls about it since all my current vehicles suck mileage wise.

this thread has gone straight to hell and back 3 times now. WTF?

Scott, why do you want to buy a hot rod as a DD? 5 people have asked you this already. Answer the question. Is what you just wrecked getting totalled or what? Is it going to be fixed? Just replace it with a similar item. WTF are you thinking? It sucks that we live in this God-forsaken hilly, valley, wintery place, but we do. Buy a damn FWD winter beater and forget about it. Spend the extra money on the black hot rod. What am I missing here?

i dont really consider it a "hot rod".. And it will go alot better everyday and get alot better mpg than my black car does. I am not able to own two vehicles at once and whatever i get next will have to do until everything pans out with a new job, new apartment or house, and probably moving away so it needs to be reliable. Dont get me wrong there is nothing wrong with my car and it starts up everytime, but its got 104k miles on it and not getting any younger.

we still not heard back from the insurance company, but whether its totalled or not, i will not be driving it anymore due to the fact i dont want to leave my g-parents handicapped with only one car like it is panning out right now, I am glad that they help me everyday and everyway they can, thats why i cant do that again and risk the chance of me wrecking THEIR vehicle again.

Its not so much teh winter as it has to do with every other day in the year. I drive atleas 90 miles a day for school, it stop and go and highway driving. I am thinking not of right now but 3 years down the road when i am going to be so strapped with bills that i will not be able to afford another vehicle and will need one so this move is not for just not but its for a long term.

thats why i am looking at 15k max cars, because i am using all the money from my black to put as a down payment if i choose to go this route, i never said i was going or maybe i did, cant remember. But i am in thinking stage of all this.

the GTO is not going to get better mileage than your stang. what gears are in the '95? It really doesn't matter. I don't care what the sticker or the internet or your friends say, it's a 346ci V8 either way... it'll get 15 city 20 highway AT BEST.

I'm not sure what the mustang gets, but the GTO will do much better than that... when my LS1 was heads/cam (and a decent size cam at that) it got 17-18 in the city, and got an average of 25 on the highway... the turnpike trip to Philly it got 31... all that with 4:10 gears... the manuals aren't bad at all on gas...

edit: before the h/c setup, it was pretty much exactly the same
