Looks good Bob. Is the curved horizontal bar standard or optional on the MM bar?

Standard. The only option on the bar is either bolt it (not race legal) or weld in as a standard. I can use the extra few inches, so I'm glas to see it that way ;)

Looks good Bob. I have the Wolfe racecraft version in mine. I never had the rear bars welded and no track that I have been to (10+) have ever said a word.

I've thought of the same, but it probably wont save me any time / effort. Once its fitted, its coming out to get painted, so it might as well get welded too ;)

I looked at the Racecraft bars too, just a bit more money than what I have in this. We will probably be putting a Wolfe bar in a friends Firebird 'vert too.

Mine was straight but the bar is set back enough for plenty of clearance. Im 350lbs and fit with room to spare.

On the early cars, Cut a hole for the kickers to go through, then a slot to the edge so the panels can be removed. On the later cars it talks about speakers holes and less cutting, but I dont know about those.

so Bob, what exactly can't you do on cars?

looks like fun. I've always wanted to take some welding classes. Maybe after this summers stunt driving courses I will.

Also ?? Both my bar and Lou's as shown are swing out door bars. They are indeed legal to a point (10.00?) and the only way I would it on a street car. (not to mention my fat butt climbing over fixed bars would suck) On mine, when the door bars are removed, all that will be in the way is a small post on the floor inside the rocker. I'm not so sure I like how they are done with Lou's. They look like they would swing better than mine, but it looks like there is more in the way with the bar removed. I do like how his door bars are shapped better. That stuff is all about preference.

You are right Bob, mine does get in the way a little but I never remove them anyways. My old setup in my 88 coupe was really simular to yours and I really liked it.

Been a while since anything happened on this little project ;)

Last night I pulled the interior out of the car, and Frankie (turbo83coupe) came over and helped me get it fit up :D (Thanks Frank!) Interior panels are cut for the down bars and ready to go back in. It a PITA to get in and out of the door of the car with the kickers in, it fits exactly one way, and only from the passenger side because of my A pillar gauges. We did manage to nick up the tint on both of my quarter windows :(

Tonight I got the down bars welded in place, and painted the main hoop. Should be ready to finish the installation on Saturday, then put the interior back together. Could likely get it in tomorrow, but hopefully I will be picking up another part ;)

    Pics to come.
