How hard would this be to fix?

Anyone have any idea on how much work would go into fixing this?

If you are able to rebuild it, then maybe it's worth it. Also as long as heads where still good. The main thing I would want off of that would be the heads. Is the block aluminum?

I nice big KB 2.8 would look good on there.

Well as long as block or heads are still rebuildable.

In the desription they said that the timing chain broke, they thought. I figure at least the pistons and valves are screwed up on the one bank. Since they also mentioned running it on the other four pistons i wonder how bad of shape the block is in.lol. As long as the block doesn't need to be bored more than 20 over, and head castings were not damaged then it could be rebuilt.

They also mentioned not wanting to ship it.

from my experience, if the pistons hit the valves in these or most any motors they will not run at all, Besides we have fixed some seriously crashed motors before..

sooo.....is that a "yes clark should get it and slap a nice big turbo on there" or "no, not worth it"?

OK F it im getting it lol and chances are i wont be able to fix it all myself ......i dunno how long i can hide it from the gf though! not to mention mom....lol

i did some research though and it looks like the 1998 navigator 5.4 only put out 230 hp? Is this right? If so, its not worth it.

The only thing that would scare me is they said they ran it after knowing there was a problem. But the heads alone are worth the price.

I not sure about the stock hp rating. But the 5.4l 4v has a lot of potential. I would like to have the heads, and put them on a new forged shortblock.

to make it a real contender you would have to put alot of cash in it, the stock rods and pistons suck, i am not sure about the crank i don't hear much about them from anyone, but the heads should be the better heads, put a pair of tubros or a nice charger and that thing will be SICK!!!

300hp from the factory....rack that up to a restrictive exhaust & intake, not to mention a piss poor tune! Those engines have serious potential...as long as you're willing to dump some $$ into it

    How about a Triton V10 ?!?!? lol

Oh how much could you make on the stock shortblock, heads, and cams? I'm sure you could probably forge the short block and have the heads ported. Who makes a kit for it? With the sc on it, will it still fit in the stangs engine bay?

I'm not an engine guru by any means....I just always wanted to either put a TT 5.4 DOHC or a blown Triton V10 under the hood of a Mustang. Not sure about how much power the stock block can handle...I do know that the V10's love boost and make some pretty respectable numbers with some forced air and a good tune. Paxton & Vortech (perhaps even Procharger) make kits for the Trition V10 (Ford Superduty's). It will definitely take some massaging in order to fit in the engine compartment....not to mention a cowl hood would be a necessity. Someone try it!

    Torque Monster!
    [COLOR=blue! important][COLOR=blue! important]High Output Supercharging Systems (6.8L):
The increased boost level, high output supercharger system, features a fully integrated air to water aftercooler approach to charge cooling. This system will increase horsepower from 310 to 464 and will increase torque from 425 lb./ft. to 542 lb./ft.*

I seem to remember Ford putting a V-10 in a silver new edge Mustang as a prototype car a number of years ago. I want to say they put a Cobra -R hood on to clear it.

It would have to make 40-50 more hp then a v8 to make up for the weight but it would be cool.
