my friends got a 97...are the rearends the same size from 79-04 and just the axles themselves longer? or is the housing a different size.

also, He has a 7.5 in it now, will his axles fit in an 8.8 housing?

yes his axels will fit. i have put 99-04 axels in my 94-98 rear. they will sit .75" wider each side and look perfect.

1986 - 1998 share the same housing, the 99 - 04 housing is wider.

i have read all pm's...ill let my friend know and find out what he wants to do

look into the 99+. you get 3.27 gears instead of 2.73 and you get a 1.5" wider wheel base. looks good.
