Ok well im thinking of buying 17x9" cobra rs off a member on here, and i really cant afford to buy new tires ( considering i just bought some like a month ago) and was wondering, will my 225/60/r15s fit on a 17x9 rim?
im doubting they will but i figured i would ask...

Here's a quick lesson on tire sizes:
for a 225/60/15 tire....mounted on your stock turbines ( 15" diameter by 7" width? )
the 225 is the tread width in millimeters ( basically the "footprint" of the tire )
the 60 is the ratio of the distance from the rim to the road divided by the width of the tire ( rim-to-road distance in millimeters divided by 225 = approx 60% )
and the 15 is the rim diameter in inches
So a 17 x 9 rim would require something like a 245/50/17 tire. You'll need it to be 245 wide ( approx ) so it will fit on the 9" wide rim. You'll need it to be a lower profile tire ( 50 series instead of 60 series ) because as you increase the rim diameter you have to reduce the series ( or profile ) of the tire so it will fit in your existing wheelwell without rubbing. And you'll need a 17" diameter tire to fit on the 17" rim.
Others on here can probably tell you the max size you can run on your car with a 17" rim. Chances are you can go a little wider than 245 in the back ( maybe up to 275 or so ) than in the front, since you'll have trouble with tire rub when you turn your wheels to full lock.

the smallest tire that i think will fit on a 17/9 is a 245/45/17.. A 17/9 rim should have a 275-40-17 and this size fits the best.

come on now...i hate to bust your balls but you should know better. 15 inch tires fit 15 inch rims, 16 inch tires fit 16 inch rims, 17 inch tires fit 17 inch rims and so on

well i basically knew it wouldnt fit, but while i posted that i was at school, and some kid had been swearing up and down that i could fit it and blah blah blah, so i needed somebody here to chime in to shut him up and prove that you couldnt... im not THAT dumb....
