This is funny, too. I asked my buddy if those cop cars are all tuned up and maintained like crazy and he says, "Hell no, dude... it's like going to the go-kart track. You get to know the numbers of the ones that run like crap, have slipping trannies, out-of-alignment. Most of them got crazy high miles, the tires are bald, CEL is on... they're a joke." :D:D:D
Then when I get that look in my eye like I can outrun one, he says the immortal cop, pr1ck statement... "But you won't outrun Motorola."

They don't need fast cars, just radios, and if you try to run in a car your an idiot anyway. Cop cars are junk. I think its funny how they always leave the car on even when they go into sheets for 10-15 mins. Good waste of gas. I can only imagine the gas they go through as a grand total.

I wouldn't say all cop cars are junk. The Crown Vics seem to hold up better than the other models. The departments that run Vics will have cars in their fleet that are 5+ years old. It seems that the ones running Impalas will replace them after as little as a year. The Charger is new, so it is yet to be seen how they will last.
Robinson has all Crown Vics and will not change. They have some pretty old cars still in service too. Kennedy has Impalas and replace them every year. They just bought a new Charger that is in service. Coraopolis has mostly Crown Vics and one new Charger (black, unmarked) and another marked unit on order. My buddy who is a cop in Robinson and Coraopolis said he loves the Charger over the Vic simply because its faster. He said the Vics feel better...less squeaks and rattles and more solid. I think there is one thing everyone can agree on: Chevy F-ed up when they discontinued the 9C1 Caprice, probably the best police vehicle of all time.
