Do all ATV's require PA plate and reg?

    How about insurance?

I'm looking to pick up a used warrior or raptor but i'm hesitant if the price to own one means all these extra payments.

I believe they do.... You can bet that the majority of people still don't do these things, but i thought they did require a plate and insurance....

Maybe only if you're going to ride in certain places? I know if you go to Marionville, quads have to have plates and insurance (or so i've heard from several sources)

Liability insurance is around $125/year. Gotta love PA....need a license plate to drive "off road" on a vehicle that isn't allowed "on road".....makes sense huh?

I'm in the same boat....picking up a "new" quad this weekend

That's a bunch of bullshit. I have a '91 Warrior that I bought brand new and at that time they were just starting to institute the license thing. I paid for it and I was the only quad I ever saw with it. I haven't rode for at least 4 years and my warrior has sat this entire time. I've been getting the itch to get it back on the road, but if I have to pay this crap I may not.

As far as i knew, if your riding on your own property you don't need insurance.

Or a plate from what I understand. Just don't get caught taking it on any county atv trails or similar areas.

No plate or insurance is required for your own property.

I have a plate and insurance for mine. We do a lot of riding on public property and a lot of the places require plate and insurance.

I pay $85/year for insurance and while it's not by choice I want to be legal. Mine is full coverage insurance as well. If I flip it down a hill and total the quad it's covered, if I hurt someone with the quad, it's covered. Small price to pay for peace of mind IMO.

Yes and no. You need a plate. Yolu dont need insurance. Now, think of it as a car nowadays. Some assholes got hurt and started sueing people so they needed to get insurance to cover the costs. If you can afford to pay a law suit then dont get it. But also, as Mark said, your quad is fully covered. If you hit a tree, its covered. The plate is cheap and is an every two year thing.

    Mark,

Who do you have insurance through? 85 is the cheapest i've heard..most are around 125 like quoted above.

I would like to ride at Marionville and some other public places...so sounds like I need the plate, reg, and the insurance....DOH.

If you ride in Marionville, you have to have a DCNR plate, current registration, and insurance. When they have the Tour de Forest in the fall, there is an extra cost. There are a lot of places like that...that is, there's an extra fee to ride there.

No plate or registration on mine and the only insurance I carry is my .45 on my side when I ride it.

why is it stupid to have to have a plate even if you drive off road?

When I was living in Alaska snowmachines (or "snowmobiles" down here) had to be registered and insured. Hell I even saw someone get a DUI on one by a state trooper!

    !

Because you're not legally allowed to drive it ON the road.

Should my lawnmower have a license plate? :)

Its just another way for the "Man" to get more money.

You can ride your lawn mower, lawn tractor or tractor on the street as long as its less than 26 horsepower.

You can get a DUI on a lawn tractor. The guy pictured in my avatar got one.

I have Progressive Direct. It was $100 the first year and this renewal was $85 for this year. I guess it's because I was a good boy..? LOL

Price is largely dependent on the type of quad and displacement. Mine is a 4x4 450cc Yamaha Wolverine.
