    GTO LS7 prep

Well our season is getting close and i'm deep into setup for the 2008 season. The GTO will no longer be a RedBull car, Bridgestone and Rhys Millen Racing (the company i work for) will be the main sponsors. I was named head mechanic/fabricator for our GTO a few weeks ago. This means that i am responsible for the entire offseason car build, as well as on track support and running the crew. GM was kind enough to give us a very, very mean built LS7 for this season so alot of things need improvment to hold that kind of power. We have decided to run the motor on E85 ( the same fuel our other car runs) in order to interchange fuel. The biggest part of the offseason build is to address the lack of forward grip in this car. If you have ever been in a GTO making any power you will see that complete lack of traction the trailing arm setup gives you. Unfortunatly GM dident see this as a problem, and gives you no pinion angle adjustment. Since there are no aftermarket parts to change this i had to hand fab a new subframe.

GTO and Solstice under the knife!

    Later that day

I started with a factory Holden Rear subframe, and arms straight from Australia. Back subframe took a big hit thanks to Robby Gorton hitting the wall, in a demo.

Factory stamping= junk, diff bolts hard up on this subframe.

    make way for carbon steel!

Making room for Heims and Uniballs!

    New carbon steel

These guys are uniballs and allow the pinion to pivot when i turn the rear hiem links

Scribe my lines onto this tube.

    one done

    and two

started as 3" chromo round stock

gun drilled to take some weight out

    Looking good

    good bye factory rear mount

i needed a new rear pinion mount to run heim off of

    all done

turn those heim and you go from factory 11 degree, to my new angle which should be in the 3 degree range for flat track, and a little more for banked.

I'm not quite done here but will be tommrow afternoon. I've got alot of other cool things i'm donig on this car i'll be sure to post.

Here is the finished rear diff/subframe mount. I've got the diff to go -2.5 all the way to 6 degrees positive. All you have to do is turn the the two center links.
