Lifted the heads at the track!

Only real good things that came out of the trip for me was. A new best trap of 130.89 and hanging out with my daughter .

Well I was puking a little coolant out from under the radiator cap. Then on my last run it really shoved it out, and busted a heater core hose, right as I passed through the traps. I big cloud of white steam pours out of the back. I was racing a Firebird who challenged me right after I went back to my 17's. He was running high 11's. He red lighted and I still drove around and beat him by 4 tenths. I ran a 11.6x almost as good as my best on the 15" ET streets that day.

Traction, track prep. and the staff were terrible. MY best et was 11.57 @ 130.89 with a 1.81 60" also best 60' of the day. I was just spinning through the first 1/2 of the 1/8.

I busted the hose right before I went through traps, and they gave hell for not getting over sooner. I told them I pulled over as fast as I could since I was going almost 130.

I had some extra hose, and my tools, so fixed it, and filled it back up, and all was well as long as I stay out boost.

My clutch fork also came off again at the track. and right before I got home the F'ng passenger side tailpipe falls off Not good

I was having trouble deciding between heads or a bigger supercharger in may but I think my decision has be made for me. I knew I was asking for trouble with still using stock head bolts and gaskets but they lasted for 2 years. These are my plans for May now.

    MMR stage 3 heads

    Upgrade to Titanium Retainers

    MMR Racing Bronze Valve Guides

    MMR/Felpro Head Gaskets

    ARP Headstud kit 96-04

Are you sure your fuel system is up to the task? Lifting heads usually indicates detonation.

Yes it should be the same. But it was cold that day at the track. I also had a little breaking up when I was at the dyno in the high rpm's. Dave said if I cleared that up it might see 530-540, which I fixed. Not to mention I always thought the old dyno at SGS was a little underated. I went back down to sgs and we did a little road tuning and had a lot of duty cycle left in the fuel system.

The last time I tuned it seemed to be enough, and I haven't changed anything since. But I do run it about 2k past where I did on the dyno. But like I said I had plenty of head room according to the last data that day at SGS.

I have 03 dual Cobra pumps/tank. 40AMP BAP, 42lb injectors, and I removed the pprv.

Do you have a wideband? that'll tell you if your fuel system is keeping up

I would say you should if you don't

    I sure don't, I just have a fuel pressure and a boost/vac gauge.

I would get one if i were you... they're not cheap, but cheap insurance to find out if you're running too lean.... or a nice confirmation that you're tune is tip-top....

I just might have to short shift until I can afford to get one lol.

That's what I'm doing because I want that ysi trim this May

    Here's my parts list

    Arp head studs
    Arp crank pulley bolt
    Arp assembly lube
    Comp high load valve springs
    Comp Steel valve retainers
    Felpro mls head gaskets
Upper and lower radiator hoses still have the orginals with a 148k lol.
Valve cover gaskets, I have a leak.
    Front main seal
    Fluids and filter.

The header and intake gaskets are pretty new so I hope to reuse those.

I'm dumping my exhaust after the mufflers for now. It's a cheap fix for the tail pipe that rusted off.

I'm taking it back to Tim at Rodeheaver's to have the work done,. Since it has to be precise I feel Tim will do a better job than I.

Hey guys I think it just could have been a big air pocket. I have been having trouble getting the coolant system to purge lately/

I went out and today and kept running it kinda hard then I would let it cool a little. Then I would slowly release the cap. I did this with the back end going down hill and you could here the air escaping then I would Top it off.

After several times I took it to the freeway and made several 2nd to 4th runs as hard as she would go and so far not even a drip of coolant.. I even ran it a little farther than I would at the track in forth.

I had the radiator hose off not to long ago and I think it might have been just a huge air pocket.

I hope it's it fixed because if I wait until May I can also afford to put some MMR stage 3 heads on instead of just changing the springs and retainers on the stock heads along with the studs and gaskets.

I'll have to store all pieces parts I just ordered until May.
