did anyone hear the news that they just discovered a huge oil reserve in Montana?

Even though we are dependent on fuel a lot no doubt there is still way too much profits being made on oil products.
I agree with the war needing to be ended.
I still do not see a connection with usage to the cost of gas. Can someone explain why as we use more the price goes up? It seems like they are allowed to let greed be their guide. Government can help but chooses not to.
I can hardly wait until the war is over and our guys come home. I just don't see the need for the lives wasted, let alone billions of our $$ that could be used for the betterment of US(a).

People are driving me crazy with this "lets not buy gas for a day" bull$hit.....Get it through your head people, YOU HAVE NO CHOICE IN THE MATTER, unless you buy an ALL electric car......then people would bitch that the electricity prices are too high. The last time I filled my truck (Monday) it cost me $80.50.....Im not riding a bike to work or taking the bus so you know what, I dont bitch about it cause I know I need it and HAVE NO CHOICE.....Do i agree with $3.00+ per gal gas prices, HELL NO......On average most gas companies make 2-3 BILLION dollar PROFITS per quarter. I think gas per gallon, should be around $1-$1.50 per gallon.
The real problem now is the Wall Street Shitheads that think oil is the newest thing to have. They lost money on the housing and other goods markets, and now think they can make it on oil. Untill they lose on oil, the price will stay high. I remember putting 17 cent gas in my Camaro in 1971!
can't yinz see the head aches that would arise from people not buying gas, if we didnt buy it for a day or two, their storage tanks would be full to the max, their storage areas would be busting at the seams. and so on, we use it as fast as they can drill it.. It would cause a mass charley foxtrot if we refused to buy gas for a day or 2.. i can see it on the news being talked about how it caused all these problems and the american people arent standing for this bully crap and then maybe the whole world will follow suite and do the same thing, its the butterfly affect, i has to start somewere, people just can't get unified for one stinking minute to get their heads together to do it. People in this country used to stand up for things, but now all i see is people laying down and letting the gov machine running them down...

but the problem is that it will never hit their pockets....the american people would buy extra gas in the days before and after the "boycott" and it will even itself out. as it has been stated it is a necessity for most americans. its a rip being so expensive but they got us by the balls knowing we have to have it.
all I have to say is buy a permit from the Commonwealth to be able to make your own alcohol now because once E85 really starts coming into play you can bet your bottom dollar that laws will change and screw anyone who wants to make homebrew fuel.
You heard it here first!
E85 won't ever come into play. Not enough corn to 'fuel' the demand.
You heard it here first. LOL

lol. good luck Mark, you must have alot to invest.
Jared is right. even to stop buying gas for a day or two wouldn't hit their pockets, and would only hurt the people who depend on it. I actually have been kicking around the idea of getting a bike for work. Free parking for bikes, less gas, etc. Where as its like $20/day to park and $50 in gas every 5 days right now.
Yep they have a HUGE oil boom going on there but you almost never hear a thing about it on any news. More people are working the oil fields in Montana that places like McDonald's offering $12/hour doesn't help. Businesses are having hard time getting people to work anything but oil right now.

Regarding corn and E85, most farmers make are subsidized more from the government than they would make by growing corn. I grew up on a 2500 acre farm and a year or so ago I asked my cousin who's dad owns it if they were going to jump on the band wagon and start to grow more corn and he laughed at the thought and said they are paid more not to grow it than they would make if they did.
I've thought about this a lot and how we could make a impact. I agree a 1-2 day boycott makes no sense since we would all fill up before or after the boycott. What I think might have a chance at working is for America to have a "stay at home day" where every business would voluntarily close for a day or two and people would stay home and off the roads. This would in fact decrease demand and cause a temporary surplus. Of course this would be a VERY hard thing to accomplish because due to how shitty the economy is right now, most businesses couldn't afford a day without sales and income. The potential benefit from the increase in gas surplus would probably be outweighed by the negative economic impact on everything else by the country shutting down for a day or two.
One thing I will add is that I know of a guy that used to drive a tanker truck that hauled fuel. He left that job for another and things didn't work out. He went back to get his old job and he is unable to because the company actually had layoffs as there has been less demand for fuel and they didn't need as many trucks in their fleet.... tell me that doesn't piss you off! That's proof right there that we are using less fuel (either by cutting back on our miles driven or by the availability of more fuel efficient vehicles in recent years) yet fuel prices keep going up.
Philly, from what I hear, you're idea on the alcohol license is already too late and that the permit fees are CRAZY expensive now.
The local TSWP of Portage PA recently passed a law stating that if you install a wind mill on your property you would have to pay a $2500 permit fee/year. tell me that isn't a prime example of government corruption, and the fact that its on such a small scale just shows how bad the problem is.
Does anyone know where to even start looking for information on solar power systems for homes?
