I've thought about this a lot and how we could make a impact. I agree a 1-2 day boycott makes no sense since we would all fill up before or after the boycott. What I think might have a chance at working is for America to have a "stay at home day" where every business would voluntarily close for a day or two and people would stay home and off the roads. This would in fact decrease demand and cause a temporary surplus. Of course this would be a VERY hard thing to accomplish because due to how shitty the economy is right now, most businesses couldn't afford a day without sales and income. The potential benefit from the increase in gas surplus would probably be outweighed by the negative economic impact on everything else by the country shutting down for a day or two.

One thing I will add is that I know of a guy that used to drive a tanker truck that hauled fuel. He left that job for another and things didn't work out. He went back to get his old job and he is unable to because the company actually had layoffs as there has been less demand for fuel and they didn't need as many trucks in their fleet.... tell me that doesn't piss you off! That's proof right there that we are using less fuel (either by cutting back on our miles driven or by the availability of more fuel efficient vehicles in recent years) yet fuel prices keep going up.

Philly, from what I hear, you're idea on the alcohol license is already too late and that the permit fees are CRAZY expensive now.

The local TSWP of Portage PA recently passed a law stating that if you install a wind mill on your property you would have to pay a $2500 permit fee/year. tell me that isn't a prime example of government corruption, and the fact that its on such a small scale just shows how bad the problem is.

Does anyone know where to even start looking for information on solar power systems for homes?
I was at the home and garden show at the convention center and there was a company that had a booth, I didn't catch the name, I'll look in the program tomorrow and see if I find it.

Gas useage has came down, I read the other day it was down like 1.2% from the previous month. This was the biggest drop in useage for a month since like 1992. But yet the prices keep skyrocketing!

Thats friggin criminal! they want to make sure that when it comes to energy, they have you by the balls. There has to be a state constitutional challenge to that law.

As for solar power systems, you can try:

    www.ecasavesenergy.org
www.phillysolar.org (part of the million solar roofs partnership, so their information about grants pertains to the feds and state, so you would qualify in pittsburgh)

    Solar Panel Manufacturers:
BP Solar (acquired Solarex solar panels) - http://www.bpsolar.us/
    solar cells limited - http://www.solar-cells.net/solar.html

solar shingles - install like shingles, act like solar panels:
    www.oksolar.com/roof
    alpha solar - http://www.alphasolar.com/alpha_solar_062.htm

Solar Panel and system outlets (for things like inverters and ancillary supplies):
    www.solarhome.org
    www.mrsolar.com
    www.evergreensolar.com

Those should be enough to get you started.

I've been a fan of and followed solar tech for about 20 years now. If you want an assessment done for your property or have any questions about buyback programs (PA is now "net metering" which means if you hook to the grid and you generate a surplus you get a check for what they would sell it to you for) or any other information let me know.

There nice reliable cars, the 02 civic has 120,xxx miles on it now and it still runs as good as it did when it was brand new. Only thing replaced on it was front brake pads, tires, and oil.
