GREENSBURG, Pa. -- An 18-year-old Greensburg man has been charged with raping a baby who police said was left in his care.

Police said Scott Wade Smith raped his girlfriend's 5-month-old girl Friday morning at a home in the 500 block of Highland Avenue, where several people, including the infant's mother, were living.

Authorities said the infant suffered severe injuries and was flown to Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, where surgery was performed.

Police said the girl was crying so hard she nearly stopped breathing.

According to police, Smith made a story about the baby choking on a crayon, but paramedics didn't find anything in her throat. So, they decided to take her to Westmoreland Hospital, which is where doctors found blood inside her diaper.

"Doctors immediately notified Greensburg police, who headed to the house with a search warrant," said Capt. George Seranko of the Greensburg Police Department.

There, police said they found a blood-soaked towel in a box in Smith's bedroom, along with four red-stained baby wipes.

The mother was in class at her high school when the alleged attack occurred, police said.

Smith was charged with five felonies, including rape of a child, causing seriously bodily injury, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and endangering the welfare of children. He is being held at the Westmoreland County Prison on $1 million bail.

Police said rape of a child with serious bodily injury under the age of 13 is punishable by life in prison, and they are asking the district attorney to push for that sentence.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Thursday. It's unknown whether Smith has a lawyer yet.

capital punishment debate aside, it might not be a bad idea to let him rot in jail.

There is honor among theives, and child molestors are hated in jail.

I dont mind paying tax money so that he can suffer for the rest of his life at the hands of jailmates. The bastard deserves that.

then if for some reason he gets out, he'll be on megan's law lists for the rest of his life.

If I ever seen this piece of garbage I would knock his phuckin teeth down his throat without thinking twice about it, then beat him till he was unconcious, wait for him to wake back up and then beat him again. This would be a process that would last for days, maybe even weeks!
Dont kill that douschebag, send him to regular population prison and make sure to announce over the loudspeaker for everybody to hear what exactly he did to that baby and then pass a picture of the baby around to all of the inmates. They would beat the piss out of this fairy everyday till one of them finally killed him!
Im sorry but when I see this crap happen to an innocent baby I get a little worked up....

I am sick to my stomach after reading about this idiot. God help that poor little girl. I hope someone in the child's family acts on their anger and provides him with unimaginable pain and suffering - like 50 times the stuff you see in "SAW". Going to jail is not enough. Free meals, bunk, and cable TV, even for life, won't cut it. We as taxpayers shouldn't have to shell out $60k a year for this ass to live without a care in the world - not worrying about keeping a job, paying rent, cooking meals. Heck - he's 18 - say he lives to be 80 - that's 62 years at $60k/year in TODAY's money - around $3.7 million if my math is close.

There are SO many f'n morons out there these days - from derelicts like this guy to wealthy educated governors ( Spitzer ). It is truly frightening.

see the thing is to all who keep saying let him rot in prison he will get his in there. he will have a nice cell to himself and he will eat and have yard by his self and they will protect him because if not he can file a law suit againt the prison he is which will again come out of our pocket. there should be no such thing as life in prison or more than 30 years. if u mess up that bad u need to go thats all there is to it. this country wastes so much money on assholes it unbelieveable. right now there is illegals in our prison systems serving life they arent even from this country and we pay for them. this is bullshit.
