    Do I Need Undercoating?

I just bought a new Honda CRV that I'm using as a daily driver (still have my 5.0). I almost bought the dealer supplied spray undercoating but decided against it. I heard stories for and against this. The wheel wells are 95% undercoated from Honda (some top areas aren't covered), the underneath isn't, but there's a 5 year rust through warranty, and I got the extended 7 year. Do I really need that black and/or waxy undercoating or is it a waste of money? THANKS!

    undercoating

GET IT!!!!! that stuff sucks on a car, but all the mustangs i buy, the ones with the thick waxish tar stuff hold up the best!!! I would in a honda anyway, its def worth the loot... in the long run

When I bought my Altimas I was considering the same thing but after reading a lot of things about it, I decided against it. If you get it undercoated and it chips you're suppose to get it touched up. If you don't, it will hold moisture between the car and the undercoating.

Its just not worth the cash IMO. Plus, how long do you plan on keeping it? I've seen 7-8 year old cars that are daily driven that are still clean without it.

This is my exact thinking if it chips. I'll probably keep it 8 or 9 years.

Yea, one reason I never got it. Cars today are built well and are pretty resilient to rust. I think you will be fine and I think your money could be better spent elsewhere.

    undercoat

Yes that happens with that rubber coating garbage, it makes pockets and holds water,,,, but that sticky thick paste is the ticket, REMEMBER HONDA!!!!

Like I said, cars are built better today then 15 years ago. Good luck with whatever you choose to do.

one of my old jobs i did zebarting and this is a good deal unless you get a chip like stated above. it will rot worse if the moisture gets in there and stays.

i do this now at work. And to tell ya the truth most people get it for a sound deading.. It does help though, i have seen maybe fords that are only a few years old especially the 250s that are really bad underneath.. I did my crv that i drive and its held up so far.. I would not do it to a car, but if i had a truck or something then yea i would but a car i barely drive no..

good thread topic... i wanted to "undercoat" my stanger with that sticky goopy shit too... and even thought about rhinolining... but it sounds as if a few heavy coats of por15 is the best way to go... ?? anyone have a technical info this "undercoating" (NOT the rubberized bullshit)? thanks in advance :D
