Automatic Transmission. Flush vs filter/fluid change

I was talking to some one regarding getting my AOD on my Explorer serviced. Strong believer in having filter / fluid changed on a AOD transmission on a regular basis. I stopped in a place in New Kensington to get a price and he told me they no longer remove the transmission filter but they have a process that flushed out the transmission, fliter and torque converter.

Anyone heard of this? Comments, Yes, No, Maybe?

How good is this process vs. the R&R of the filter/fluid?

Do the flush! you can't do it any better than that.. Its the best way to get the tranny fully cleaned out..I do them all the time with great results. Go see casper gt.

What about the filter? Can the flushing damage the filter at all?

What a vehicle that is 10 years+ old? Could that older filter get messed up?

Doesn't hurt the filter. Only uses the tranny pressure to flush it out. The car runs and pushes out the old while the machine puts in the new stuff. They should put some tranny cleaner in there and take it for a ride so it cleans the plates and loosens up all the junk. Then they will hook it up to the tranny line so it flushes out the tranny, rad and the lines. You will feel the difference.

the filter is'nt really a filter in the 02 and up exploders , they are more like screen mesh over laped. when you back flush them every thing comes out. if you do drop the pan there is no way to add fluid except to squirt it through the over flow type drain plug they use and that is a huge mess.

The Explorer is a 1995. That why I was concerned about the age of the filter. If the flush is good, that may be the way to go.

OH yeah... its the way to go.. I had trannys that would shift, stayed in drive all the way down to 10mph and would come out. Put the cleaner in it and drove it for a few miles. Boom, starts to shift. Flushed the tranny out for them and seen them a few months later and the said it was shifting good.

How much does a flush go for? Is there a price difference by size? Example a Honda vs an Explorer?

Yeah, some time it depends on how many quarts of fluid it takes. We charge any where from 90 to 140..
