    Opinions on Buells

Well i was going to get a new R6 but the price and payments were a lil out of my league cause i want to pcik up a quad to go riding with so instead of having one new bike why not get used toys that equal out to one new one so i looked around for used ones and i found a couple buells. I love the way they look but un sure of how they ride and feel compared to a crotch rocket of what i been used to. I remember someone having one on here.. What you guys think of them?

I have a 1200 Lightning (more of an upright riding position) and love it. It has power all over and you never have to worry about being in the right gear. From 0-80 it will keep up with just about anything, after that you have trouble keeping up with the Jap bikes, because of lack of HP. If you would decide to go the Buell route, I would suggest that you try and find the Buell factory race kit (street legal). It comes with muffler, ECM, and ...I forget??? It adds about 10-12hp on a 1200, gives it more torque and an awesome sound. Buell actually doesn't manufacture the kit anymore but you can find a nice used one on Ebay every now and then.

You have to ask yourself what do you want your bike for...if you want to go 160+, stay with the rocket. If you want to carve backroads and go stop light to stop light, I highly recommend a Buell. Here is a pretty good website to look at to http://www.buelletinboard.com/

Not sure if you are looking for a Lightning or Firebolt and what you have to spend, but I know the HD/Buell shop in Somerset has some UNREAL deals on leftover Lightnings. I used to work there and if you are seriously interested, I can put you in touch someone, plus I guarantee that their service and price won't be beat.

I live in Uniontown, so if you ever want to stop by and check mine out, let me know.

Eh, i don't like the buell's, nor do i care for their performance....

I guess previously owning a TL1000R, i know what its like to have all the bottom end in the world in lower RPMS... (and Ray will soon know what that's like to! :) )
However, the I4's still have just as much bottom end if you get a 1000... Everyone dogs their bottom end, but it only feels week because its sooooo strong up top...

I think you'd probably like the bike, b/c motorcycling is just one of those things... if you're out there, you're happy no matter what bike you're on.... just maybe happier on some bikes than others....

But if you liek it, and its comfy, go for it! That Tiller will still spank ya though!!!

I have never owned a bike, but a month or so ago I was highly concidering getting one and all I wanted was a buell. I was looking at the lightning XB9. I absolutely love the way they look and I'll be envious as hell if you get one Scott! LOL! I have a few friends with them and they all rave about them. I don't know of anyone that has had one that didn't love it.

IMO a Buell is a "Hot Rod" bike... It has the looks, sounds, and feel of exactly that. I think a Buell is one of those things you either love or hate- no in between. Like I said in my first post, DON'T buy a Buell if you crave top speed, you will be disappointed.

If the Buell is still powered by an HD engine, I would stick with the Japanese or Italians.

Here is what i was thinking. Alot of my friends who are getting bikes are harleys and when we go riding i only cruise with them anyways and barely get over 100 and all we do is back rodes. The only crotch i really ride with his bish's ole tl1000r and he just putts too.. And the last couple times i rode i came to realize if i dont slow down i am probably going to end up killing myself. And im not ready to make the jump into a full blown Harley yet. So i was looking for something in between. That is awesome in the corners and just fun to ride. I have only ridden on the highway once this summer the rest were back roads and i barely got it out of second gear. Thats why i am looking at these.

This is a factory pic of my exact bike... The only difference on mine is, I have the race kit installed which has a polished muffler

Lightnings look awesome when you remove the stock license plate bracket relocate the turn signals... something I want to do but haven't gotten around to it yet. They also make a "fat tire" kit that changes the rear tire from a 180 to a 250...it looks sick, but then you lose your handling

My R6 has 20,000 plus miles. The only thing I have fixed is the shifter spring and replaced the thermostat. The guy that owned it before me just kept up on oil changes and regular maintenance. On a side note, I rode a friend's 05 R6 and that thing was awesome.

The old school Buells had some issues but since they went to the new platform in 2003, they have been relatively free of problems. The reviews are all pretty good now and there is a lot of cool/different technology on them - ex. gas/oil in the frame.

Scott- Have you test driven a Buell yet? I know Cerini's on 51/70 usually have a couple to demo...

Scott, if you get an SV or a Buell, you know you'll be upset that you still won't be able to catch that Tiller!
