    Cobra Trouble

    Here's The Story...

I Was Driving Thursday When My Heat Gauge All A Sudden Went In To The Red..I Pulled Over...My Radiator Resorvor Was Shooting All The Fluid Up Outa The Cap...Well I Replaced The Cap And Fluid...It Fixed It..Then Today I Was Driving When It Went Back Up In The Red..I Pulled Over At Auto Zone..My Resorvor Tank Was Bone Dry All A Sudden...I Looked..There Was Not One Leak..I Put 1/2 A Jug Of Fluid In Went To Shut The Hood...When All The Fluid Was Gone Again...Went And Bought 1 more jug put it in let the car run and now it seems fine again..WTF? Happened Need Your Help/Opinion And Will It Happened Again?

maybe the thermostat was stuck and it was blowing it out of the resorvior then it opened it up and you didnt have enough fluid? My guess, probably wrong though

I agree...sounds like a stuck/bad thermostat. And then the ait pockets caused by the refilling....

might of had air in the system that wasnt bleed out from when u filled it. its always a good idea to recheck rad fluid level a couple of times after something like this happens.

I am going to guess that you did this already but take a look at the oil and make sure its ok.

I would fill it back up with coolant and get all of the air out of the system. After that I would let the car idle with the resivor cap off and keep an eye on the level and watch for any bubbles that could be exhaust from a head gasket leak. Also look for leaks under the car.

If the coolant heats up and comes out the resivor again then you have a thermostat that is sticking.

The only reason for a temp gauge to jump like that is if the system is low on coolant which causes it to not circulate and get to the temp sensor all the time. Then if you go up or down hill and it hits the tem senson then it will read high. (AKA air pocket)

BTW I dont think you can fill any of the newer cars by putting coolant in the resivor for the reason that Ed stated. They either have a cap in a high spot or a smaller plug. This lets the air out when you are putting the coolant in.

After you get this figured out change the oil!!

You can't fill a DOHC engine thru the resivor cap. You have to fill it thru the plug in the coolant tube on top of the engine. Using the resivor will only cause air pockets in the cooling system.
