for a 5-speed car, they put down 220-230hp at the wheels stock.
all the 4.6 from 99-up had the PI heads and intake stock. except for a few blocks built at the Windsor plant in 2000/early-2001 which some people think are stronger because of (I think) a 6-bolt main, the rest come from Romeo plant and they're all the same. you can look on your door jam tag and see when your car was built. if it was before about April of '01, you might have the Borg-Warner T-45 tranny, after that they're all Tremec TR-3650. If it's crunching some gears now, it's probably the 3650.
These cars respond to the same junk as most others. intake/exhaust/gears/tune. I've probably got $4K wrapped up in every aftermarket bolt-on including cams (there's some labor in that number) and I got 290-ish hp at the wheels.
Is 60-70hp worth 3-4,000 bucks? NO, but I have fun screwing around with it and I could still slap a s/c on top of everything and get some more out of it.
If you go to the modular muscle section, I got some old threads in there rambling on about some of the stuff I've done to mine. LOL!

stock cars have about 220 rwhp or so i think. Some of the best mods ive done are
full exhaust
cams
supercharger
gears
i can speak on suspension mods as that is my current project but in all honesty i wish i would have done the supercharger earlier and not wasted all the time on the bolt ons

so best bet if a exhaust and supercharger? will they handle the boost well?
^^^ cliff notes from Troll's post ^^^
Well, you to have a KB, right? So that would eliminate an upper plenum, but all the other bolt-ons will still help out with the s/c, imo. If headers and full exhaust net you ~20hp on a N/A car, you might yield ~30hp with forced induction? right? Same on the intake side, a 75mm t/b will let you push or pull more air into the s/c than the stock 65mm.
Still, the s/c FIRST would be the best bang for the buck.

there are a few recent posts you can check out about boost and stock 4.6 blocks just within the last few days.
very GENERAL consensus is 9-10psi of boost max with an intercooler and proper tune, keep it under 400rwhp and you SHOULD be OK. the con rods are the weak link in these engines. you get a hiccup in your fuel system, it's all over. :D

as far as gears what do you suggest? like a 3:55, 3:73?
Boost is the best mod for the mod motor.

4:10 for the street? thats kinda low aint it ?
no not with these motors. don't even think about 3.55. It has 3.27 in it stock. you wouldn't even notice a difference. I bought mine with 3.73 and I'm not changing them at this point. like Ed said, 4.10 would be my minimum. All your power is between 4,000-6,000+rpm and even mine with all the junk on it now revs like a snail with two broken legs from idle to about 3,500rpm.

hmmm ok what do you think itd cost for the install of the gears? im kinda digging a grave buying all my parts lol, got a cervinis cobra r hood and stalker bumper cover and smoked(blacked out) headlights and coldair intake..
these cars <3 the boost. lol
troll: yeah the plenum underdrive pulleys and timing adjusted all had to go when the KB came but all of the rest helped me get 420rwhp :-)
gears wise id get 3.73s or 4.10s depending on your plans. i got 3.73s because i wanted a KB and 4.10s would be too much. otherwise go 4.10s
our cars will net some power from exhaust but the sound is the biggest benefit. a fully modded stang sounds better than any other car on the road
