Ranger question....

I know its not a mustang question but I need some opinions. My ranger is pinging pretty bad under all different kinds of acceleration.

The full filter, air filter, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, coil and distributor have all been recently changed.

I checked the timing and its within spec: 10* BTDC.

I run 87 in because thats what it takes. I don't want to run anything higher then that and I don't want to retard it anymore. So why's it still pinging? Or is it something else?

the 94 is fuel injected right?

the only think I can think of is clogged and/or failing fuel injectors.

Mine were clogged up something bad and i had to have them reconditioned but when I did the ping went away.

Yep, 2 things make them ping, timing or fuel. ASSuming your timing readings are right, its got to be fuel. Have you checked fuel pressure? A failing pump will cut pressure. also could be the FPR, usually if you pull of the reference hose, if its bad, it will smell of gas (shouldnt on the vacuum side).

You could also try to run a can of SeaFoam through it. Pick it up at advance auto, and follow the directions on the can. Lots of guys swear by it.

Thanks for the response guys. Yes the 94 is fuel injected and the timing is on the mark at 10* BTDC. I think I figured it out though. The last thing I could think of was bad fuel. I really started to notice it during the winter months.

I filled up coming home from state college this weekend at a sheetz and it didn't ping once the whole 3 hour trip. When I got home I filled the tank up with half 93 to mix with the other half of 87 that was in there. Been driving and lugging it down and everything with the better fuel and no ping at all.

I guess it was just the crappy addictives they put in fuel during the winter.
