Since the 97-2003 F150's that are 4.2 V6's share the same block as the 94-04 mustang V6's, I was curious how durable the stock pistons and rods are.
Looking at some online pricing I can put together a 4.2 rotating assembly for about $700.00 plus bearings.

All my stuff is in pittsburgh. I would rather rebuild what I got than shlep something from one side of the state to the other.
Besides, I think im going to have issues fitting the motor in my neon for transport
edit - also on a salvage yard upull it I have no idea if its there because of an accident or the motor died. I might wind up having to do a rebuild anyway. Id hate to get it all out and crack off the heads to get the short block just to find I got a block that has to be rebuilt anyway.
edit2 - there also might be accessory fitment issues... not sure, but again with a short block its not as much of an issue.

i have a 4.2 in my garage blown up right now.......i also i have a supercoupe intake and charger, i think that would be one good project! assuming the supercoupe heads bolt to the 4.2

The research I did says the heads from any 3.8 block from 94+ (and maybe some oder ones) will all interchange.
As for the pedal assembly, I think I already sourced one, but due to passover and the salvage yard hunt I forgot to call him... DOH!
Its for a fox body that im looking for in any event. If this doesn't work out i'll let you know.
