    Help with Dell Desktop Gx260

Ok, well my father bought a new computer from his work and brought it home and im trying to get it setup, but the problem is when i turn it on it goes to a "Log On to Windows" screen with a username and password, (windows xp professional) well i dont know the password for it, and it didnt come with any cds to reformat the harddrive or anything like that.. so what should i do to get on this computer?

i have no idea what else to do, there has gotta be a way to reformat it, and i need on it..

It was probably joined to the local domain at that office. If thats the case, and there's no local user on the machine, the only way to get on it is to hook it up in that same office, log in, and create a local user on the machine.

If you can wait a few days you can try this out. I bought a PC at a yard sale awhile back and didn't know the password(s) either. Within 3 days they sent me an email back containing the administrator and local passwords.

Google for and download OPHcrack. You'll burn it to a CD.

Insert the CD into the workstation, turn the workstation on, let it boot up, watch it crack all of the local account passwords and display them on the screen for you. Login using the administrator password.

I'd probably just start with a clean slate and reformat.

NTFS boot disks are your friend or you can use BartPE.

It was probably joined to the local domain at that office. If thats the case, and there's no local user on the machine, the only way to get on it is to hook it up in that same office, log in, and create a local user on the machine.
If this is the case XP caches the last user profile. If this was your dad's account then he can logon with his work account/password. Just select his work domain.
