Gotta love cutting it close. I put 15.1 gallons in the cobra one time. The tank supposedly holds 15.2 gallons. I had maybe another 2 miles

eh, you probably still had lots left...

My parent's jeep did that to me once... i was hoping it was lieing... it said 0 miles to empty and i went another 12 miles til i got to a gas station.... filled the tank up and then looked at the manual.... still had 4 gallons of gas in the tank....

my HD truck read below E with pretty much 5 gallons left in the tank... I think they're almost all like this... just so when you are stupid and run it too long, you don't get stranded...

In some applications the fuel actually lubricates and cools the fuel pump. Thus if your tank gets too low, you fry your fuel pump. In order to save money on expensive fuel pump replacements/services (warranty work), manufacturers have the cars programmed to trip the fuel light even though there are still a few gallons left in the tank.

I found that out the expensive way... two fuel pumps later!

My Stealth TT stalled 10 feet from the pump and coasted in. The car didnt buck at all, it just died. I got out grabbed the hose and it just made it but it was angled funny so it was a pain to fill up.
The other time I was driving my dads toyota pickup one time and he didnt mention that the gas gauge was acting up. So I am driving down the road and started up a hill and it started to buck. Good thing I knew what was going on because I did a U turn in the middle of the road. Turned the truck off, it was a stick, and coasted it down the hill as fast as it would go so it would coast up the other hill. It was about done rolling so I bumped the key to make the last little bit and made it to the traffic light right when it turned red. Damn! I thought for one second while the truck was still rolling and turned into a little parking lot, went around the back of this building, turk was bucking and about to die on me, I coasted across the road (No traffic was blocking it thank god) and coasted into the gas station. Talk about luck!!
Those are my two adventures with running out of gas. One of these days I will be walking.
I think both time I had sweat rolling down my face and my heart was pounding. Like Homer Simpson said "Nothing like getting the old heart pumping, then your left arm starts to go numb, then…"

Yeah, I have one of those electronic read outs in my truck and I got concerned when it said I have 15 miles left on the tank and I was 30 miles to the nearest station. Needless to say I made it.

Definitely a good way to burn up the fuel pump!
My wife did that to her '02 Focus running it low too many times.
Luckily it was replaced under warranty.

I fill up at a 1/4 tank - 1/2 tank just seems too often especially when you drive a gas hog like my truck.
