    engine opinions

I lookin to possibly do an engine swap and was wondering what kind of setup you all could suggest. it's goin in my 94 cobra. I was thinking a 302 stroked out to a 347 with a kenne bell. any transmission or rear end issues with producing that much power??? I have the t5 tranny stock and stock rear end.

With the blower I think a 331 stroker would be more reliable, and make good power. As for the drivetrain, it all depends on what your gonna use the car for. If you wanna bolt on some slicks at the dragstrip your gonna break something. If you want to cruise on some drag radials and get on it here and there you should be fine, JMO.

You will have to go with forged internals w/ or without the spray for it to last, I'm sure one of the shops here on this site could build you something reasonable, if not I know someone who is a certified ford tech who does work on mustangs on the side, very reasonable.

Why would the 331 be more reliable?

There are two reasons to build a 331 vs a 347. One, if you are class racing and have cubic inch limitations, and secondly, if you just want to build an engine with less power. The choice is pretty obvious.

    Fordstrokers 347 4.030 bore, 3.400 stroke, 5.315 rod, 10.6:1CR
Canfield 195 heads, Ferrea 6000 valves, Comp springs, Ti retainers, roller rockers, hand bowl blended
Camshaft Innovations custom billet core hydraulic roller camshaft
TFS Track Heat, 75mm TB, 90mm MAF, 36lb/hr inj
TREMEC 3550, billet flywheel, RAM clutch, 4.10 gears

If your going 347 I would suggest an aftermarket block. 347 + kenne bell and spray would definetly test the lvl of strength on that stock block. Be a waste to see it split in half after all that money. As for the rest of the drivetrain. Don't think that stock T-5 would hold up very long with that much torque being thrown at it. Rear wise get some axles and a rear dif cover and it should be good.

It all depends on what you want - NA or forced induction or Nitrous. I went the NA route with my 347 since I only wanted a car in the 12's and didn't want to split the block or buy a forged crank. You can build a 347 with a cast crank that makes 380 rwhp fairly easily and inexpensively. Once you go to forced induction, you should go with an aftermarket block and forged crank, which means more money. I'm sure others may disagree - JMO. I have read the KenneBell's generate a lot of heat - you should check into that and decide your use for the car. No matter which way you go you should set aside $300 for a custom tune after the build. Our 94 computers are not very forgiving.

X2, and how many classes have the c.i. limited to 331?
Do you want to make less power?

A custom cam guy can set you up to reach this goal. Jay at www.CamshaftInnovations.com is a great guy to deal with.
