Rear end noise... help me diagnose.

I'll do my best to not turn this into a stupid noise question, but I guess it already is.

Don't ask me why... I just did --- so I'm making a left turn from a stop sign onto a 4-lane highway. I mash it in first, it lights up and goes sideways to the left damn near 90* and I'm straight in my lane. In all the ruckus, I hit the rev limiter (like a dumbass) just as I'm shifting to 2nd. The car died from hitting the rev limiter at precisely the time I was between 1st and 2nd. Too late for my right foot to get back off the gas, so I burn them into 2nd. Just as I left the clutch out into 2nd and I'm sliding and burning tires and the car just died (on the limiter)... there's kinda like a big knock that comes from the right rear. Sounded like the lower control arm, shock mount, quad mount??? something popped. Well, I was still hard on it through 2nd and put it in 3rd kinda calmly. Nothing rattled or vibrated or shook or made anymore noise the whole ride home.

I jacked it up and checked all the mounting points and checked the t-loc. Then I went for another short spin and did a couple little burnouts. Both wheels are deff spinning. I turned the steering wheel left to right a few times at 35mph with no more noise or anything funny happening.

I sure hope everythings OK, but what could that have been?

I thought this might have been it, but it just didn't sound like a beaner noggin bouncing off the slightly carpeted interior of the trunk.

It really did sound like something broke. I'm going to put some jack stands under the subframes and let the axle hang down, then we'll see what's up.

Welp, no cracks or broken welds anywhere, everything is tight. Maybe when the car was all bent over and the power went off and on, the axle deflected against the exhaust, spring twisted around the hat on the frame and snapped back??? something

Yeah, only 999,998 to go. I guess if scatters all over the road, I'll know what happened. Then we can put 4.10s in it and 31-spline junk and try again.

How much gas did you have in it? It might have starved, stalled a bit then fired back up. That was the bang. When mine gets low and I rip on it, it starves and does the exact same thing. I dont let it get low now with the blower.;)

it had over 1/2 tank, but doesn't the rev limiter just cut the fuel off. this sounds exactly like what happened.

the reason I did this was because a S197 was going the other way and I was trying to show off.

I diffenatly wouldn't want to buy the car back if your beating the snot out of it. I waiting for ya to blow the rearend out or launch the drive shaft.
