take them off, clean the hell out of them, sand them down and do it right.
Someone painted mine (before I bought the car --- not knocking anyone) while they were on the car. They look OK from 10 feet away, but it doesn't look so great up close and every time I work in and around the calipers, I get red paint all over my hands.
I left my Cobra ones all natural.

I cleaned mine up off of the car and painted them with the kit you can buy at any autoparts store, its like $15 for the kit.

I painted mine still on the car.There still perfect except one big chip on the back one.
1994 svt cobra BBK underdrive pullies,cold air kit,long tube headers,Hurst shifter,4.10 gears,msd ignition,catless flowmaster exhaust,custom "Rodeheavers"subframe connectors,smog pump and a/c delete.
