    Cell phone help

Since i am moving, and will be on the road, well in the air alot and in different cities, i want to upgrade my phone. I want to be able to get on the internet, check my emails, check sites for my flight info. Need to be able to still text, pics, call, music and be able to download things onto it.. So where do i start and what do i look for when buying one? Do i need a pda phone or what? Thanks for the help, i usually just get the phone thats free when i renew my contract.. Oh yea this is with verizon wireless.

You want the Blackberry Curve. A non-PDA will give you only very limited internet access.

I don't particularly care for blackberry's.... but many business professionals have them - but i think this is more because blackberry works out deals with corporations...

I have had both a Palm Treo and a Samsung smartphone... the palm treo was spectacular.... wish i still had it.... Both of mine have been touch screen phones, and i absolutely love that.....

You could also look at some of these new phones like the Voyager (the phone i want)... They aren't smartphones, but have almost every capability of a smartphone other than Microsoft Excel and Word, etc.... they have top not internet, email, etc...

And of course there's always the iphone... I think ur definitely gonna want a smartphone or a voyager/iphone...

I highly suggest the Blackjack by AT&T. Very user friendly (more so than a blackberry), great features, all around good phone.

what kind of work will you be doing?

I am in aviation, and will be shipped out all over the world to work on aircraft that are grounded, My duty will be to get them airworthy and able to fly to our home office and permantely fixed. So thats why i need a phone with all those features.

you can hack the iPhone to make it work on verizon, but I'd never do that.

Samsung glyde is pretty cool, a friend just got it and loves it. If you want a flip phone, I love my LG VX8700, only phone I've never had any problems with.

Also, if you are just looking for web access when you're by a wi-fi area, the iPod touch is a great solution! Its the iPhone, minus the ability to call.

If you travel around the world and want verizon they have a few "global" phones. The 8830 being one of them, but it cannot take pictures and can only receive them thru e-mail. Verizon is not changing there technology and its called CDMA. Actually markets around the world who are not using CDMA are looking for ways to convert. CDMA is a more reliable service and can hold more volume than the other technologies such as GSM.

My world phone is tri-band, so it uses the old network here, CDMA, and has a sim card for GSM. FYI - China is CDMA so as long as you have a newer phone and international calling you are good to go there. The only place the triband wont work is Japan, they use a unique netwok, so I just rent a phone for there.

Not always, but generally. The phone will tell you it sends it, eat your credit, but the wont actually send the message. I can text to a foreign phone within a country with mine, but not between countries. In other words, if I'm in China, I can text to a chinese phone no issue, but not back to the US. There are ways to do it, but I find it MUCH simpler to use a SMS service from the computer to text to foreign friends for all I do it.

This is the Verizon global phone I have, simply love it....

It can take pictures and video although not great quality. I dont use it for e-mail or web (and don't want to), I have a laptop for that, but as far as phones go, its pretty freaking sweet. By the way, the site I linked above has some pretty good reviews of the phones out there.
