Need help ASAP... how do I recharge my A/C?

My A/C has been discharged since 2001 and since its going to be 90* at Carlisle this weekend I want to try to charge my AC today. What all is needed, and is there a way that I can check for leaks before I add the refrigerant? I usually search these things but I don't have the time today and really want to try and get it working. Any help is appreciated!

for $15 just fill it up and see how long it lasts that'll at least tell you if there's a leak :) finding one is a lttle harder unless you can hear it.

Isn't there 2 different bottles your suppose to put in there? Or am I thinking of something else?
I thought it was suppose to be sunny and 95 degrees on Friday?
Either way I won't be there till Saturday morning along w/ some adult beverages I might add!

Good luck with the A/C recharge.

You can buy the recharge kit at your local parts store w/ directions. As far as finding leaks, the only way I know of is to add the dye that shows up neon green where ever the leak is. Youll have to go to a shop that does A/C service to get the dye installed.

Just like the guys were saying above, its hard to find the leaks without a dye capsul. I would just go to the parts store and buy the kit for 134A and fill it up. Once you have it charged, go around all the lines and listen for leaks. Also look for oil on the lines this is usually a sign that it has started to leak. After that mix some soap and water in a squirt bottle and spray all around the lines and look for bubbles. Good luck
I have done so much, with so little, for so long, that now i can do anything with almost nothing at all.

napa auto parts sell a kit inside the kit is 2 cans and a line to hook cans up to your ac shreader valve . one of the cAns you put in first is a sealer can it has the green dye in it so if there is a leak its pretty easy to find the other is straight r134 . i think youll have to buy an extra can if your ac is completely empty .. very easy to do . make sure your ac is r 134 or you might have to purchasc a new shreader valve .. .. ive done this to several cars its very easy . hope this helps paul .
