Its actually a 2002,but it runs great.Just re jetted it,because it was fouling plugs like crazy.I want a yz 250F next I think.I am kind of over the whole 2 stroke thing.Has anyone rode one yet?The tourque is insane on them, you can hardly keep the front wheel down.

I like the 4strokes as well, but i grew up on one of the old-school 4strokes and got hooked on 2-strokes.... thus why i bought a 250 and put a 265 big bore kit in it when the top end blew out of it....

I've ridden a YZ250F and i thought it had plenty enough grunt going through turns and initially pulling out of turns.... but then i just felt like i wanted more everywhere else.... I rode a 450F and had a total blast on it... loved every minute of it... however, 2strokes are cheap now because of teh 4stroke revolution, and i'm still stuck on 2 stroke bikes...

I felt the 450 was the same as any 250+ 2stroke... front end comes off the ground just that little bit as you're rippin' into it... but its by no means uncontrollable... i suppose if you're leaning back and letting it control you it'll constantly be off the ground....

Ok man... fine with me.... I'm actually gonna look into some trails that i saw from the highway the other day... they're right in my back road... right where Camp Horne Road meets I279... there's a bunch of tracks going up the one hill that you can see from the parkway, and i'm interested in whether its private land or avaialble for anyone to ride on or what..... I'd relaly like to find something close to me so that i can go more often...

I had a crazy fast yzf426, it was really fast but not as torquey as i was expecting it to be, it would pull the wheel up in any gear but didnt have that super low grunt like a XR450 or something like that... i was gonna put a huge sprocket on the rear but never got around to it and finally sold it. And MAN was that thing a pain to hot start..

Yea that was the early 4 strokes... they were a devil to start, and it was said that the YZ400 and 426's had nearly a 2-stroke powerband.... However, when honda came out with their 450 and it had a very linear powerband, that became the big discussion... Yamaha's 2stroke snap vs. Honda's linear and predictable powerband.... I think wiht the latest 450's, yamaha has gone after the more linear approach... the 450 i rode was very strong on the bottom...

I'd personally like to feel the gobs of power in the KTM 525... so strong off the bottom they put a 4-speed tranny in it... the magz raved that even the best motocrossers could lap a track without ever coming out of 2nd gear ... strongest bike i've ever felt on the bottom, including the 4stroke MXers was a KTM300SX that a guy i know has... 2stroke bike, but just GOBS of power EVERYWHERE

1997 was a great year for dirt bikes.I bought a brand new yz 125 that year and had to drive all the way to punxsutawney to get it.That was the first year they was blue and people was buying them like crazy.

Yamaha came out wiht the YZ400F in 1998.... They were the sole 4-stroke MX manufacturer for several years.. in 2001 it became the YZ426F and in 2003 it became the YZ450F, which is the same year that Honda finally got into the market with their CRF450F... Then a couple years later, suzuki and kawi released their 4-strokes...

I believe i'm correct on those dates, but i might off by a year with the size changes (i havent followed it THAT closely over the years - i can't afford to buy a new bike each year, so once i have one i like, i don't WANT to know what's coming out b/c i'll want it)... but i knwo for sure that 1998 was the first 4-stroke year for MXers.... When i bought my most recent dirtbike, i was actually looking for a cheaper 4-stroke, a YZ426f preferrably... however, with the change to 4-strokes in MX, 4strokes are a fortune!!! for some reason even the older Yami's are keeping value, and the 2-stokes are loosing value like there's no tomorrow... So, when i came across an incredible deal on my RM250, i had to take it! There's lots of good deals on 2strokes... There was actually a KTM300SX (2stroke) that i was more interested in, but no one answered the phone... the guy called me back the day i was hauling my RM back from Ohio... said he had been on vacation.... its a shame, b/c i could have got it for even cheaper i'd imagine!
